Old Luger Hotel and The Legend of Black Tongue Hill - Fort Yates, North Dakota

In the sleepy little village of Fort Yates, North Dakota there is a old house that was once known as the Luger Hotel.  It is unknown what happened to a little girl that may have perished in the house or that location, one thing is for sure and that is that her spirit is still there.

Many guests at the hotel have reported sightings of a young girl dressed in all white in room number 4.  She is known to just stand at the foot of the bed waiting for who knows what.  Someone to play with?  To reconnect with her lost family?  The little girl in white's laughter can also be heard throughout the day in the hotel.

The building at the time was home to Richard Luger and his family.  His daughter's room were in rooms 6 and 4.  One of his daughters claimed to have occasionally passed the ghostly girl in the hallway and she would enter room number 4 and disappear.

Supposedly, there are other resident ghosts who are in the basement.  Conversations can often be heard when there is no one around.  It is believed that the voices come from several women and a man.  Perhaps these are family members of the little girl in white.

Fort Yates which is formerly and also still know to some as the Standing Rock Agency or Reservation.  The center of the local Sioux tribe.  Chief Sitting Bull was killed in the hills a short distance from Fort Yates and buried there.  Although his body was exhumed and moved to another location, there are monuments to the Native Chief at the location of his burial.

Also, in the hills near Fort Yates, another ghostly legend has risen.  In the hills just south of the town it is believed that an old reclusive woman lived and she was known as "Old Lady Black Tongue".  One fateful night, she was walking along the highway returning to her home.  She never made it as she was struck and killed by a vehicle.  To this day many have seen an old woman dressed in black walking along the road near what is now known as Black Tongue Hill.
